Karagöz, Mozart and a Giant
Two performances in Turkish and Hungarian to promote valuable linguistic diversity
About half of all schoolchildren in the city grow up bilingual. To promote this valuable linguistic diversity, LILARUM regularly invites puppet theaters from Central and Eastern Europe to its stage – bringing excellent European puppetry to Vienna almost incidentally.
On December 8, two such guest performances will take place: In the morning (10:30 AM), the intercultural Sahne Theater from Vienna will present its Turkish-language shadow theater “Karagöz ile Mozart: İki Dünya İçinde” in which Karagöz tries to find his way in Vienna while Mozart discovers his rhythm in the colorful streets of Istanbul. When their paths cross, a stage of dialogue emerges, where cultures learn to understand each other.
In the afternoon (3:30 PM), the Budapest puppeteer Gergely Bánki will present his Hungarian adaptation of the popular children's book “Giant Rick Gets Stylish” on Vienna's largest puppet stage. In this, the aforementioned giant is fed up with being the shabbiest resident of the city and decides to get cool clothes.
Both pieces are suitable for children aged 4 and up, and bilingual details are available on the theater's website.
